We Haven't Forgotten You . . .

So it seems that I continue in my old ways and fall off the face of blogging per the usual. I, thought I'd take a few minutes this morning to get back to it and give you a quick update of all the happenings here on the farm.

In spite of the lack of signage, The Deep Fork Snak Shak is officially on the road and has been busy this past month. We are a permanent vendor at all Tulsa University Football and Soccer Games. We will also have a presence at the TU Men's Basketball games with our latest purchase . . . our new nut roaster we are dubbing, "Deep Fork Nut Hut". We will be roasting with the Hut at several other indoor events as well. Both the Snak Shak and Nut Hut are available for parties, festivals, corporate events, fundraising and anything else you can think of.

The Snak Shak features our yummy Pecan Kettle Crunch as well as some of the great carnival foods we all love including: Cotton Candy, Flavored Popcorns, and Shaved Ice. We also have Nachos (both regular and extreme), Hot Dogs, Chili Dogs, a tasty Sloppy Brisket Sandwich, and some devilish good Street Tacos. Our sloppy brisket sandwich is a nice chopped brisket swimming in sweet and mild BBQ sauce so sloppy we serve it with a fork. When you order our street tacos you will feast on two chicken tacos topped with pickled red onions, slaw, and Cojita cheese drizzled with chipotle-lime sauce. We are happy to mix and match our menu for your events and are cooking up more tasty offerings all the time.

The Nut Hut has expanded to include our Pecan Kettle Crunch, as well as, cinnamon roasted cashews and almonds as well. It is all electric so it is safe to use inside or out. Now what's better than a fresh roasted nut . . . well, how about fresh kettle corn? We also have a kettle corn set-up we would be happy to bring out as well. Give us a call and let us take care of your party needs!

Now that I have all the shameless promoting done, I can let you know all the juicy stuff of what's been going on. As you can see, we have contracted with TU to provide service to their sporting events. However; we are also set-up at the Tulsa State Fair in the Expo Building in the Made in Oklahoma area. We have a booth selling our wonderful Pecan Kettle Crunch AND our all new Kettle Corn. The fair is going on through the 9th of October, so come out and have a great time!

We will also have the Snak Shak at an event in Tulsa's Blue Dome District called, "Eat Street Tulsa". There will be over 40 food trucks participating on the Saturday, Oct 15th event. If you want to try a variety of foods from some of the best food trucks in the country then this is the event for you! On that same day, Deep Fork Pecans will also have a booth at the Women of Faith Craft Fair in lovely Slick, OK. We will be selling all our pecan products as well as our kettle corn. If you miss the craft fair in Slick, we will also be at the Beggs Assembly of God Craft Fair on the 28th.

Round out your October at the Faith Baptist Church Halloween Bash on October 31st. We will be supporting our church cooking kettle corn on sight and having fun with the kiddos. There will be free hot dogs and kettle corn as well as lots of games and, of course, loads of candy! This is always a good time so don't miss out.

On the farm our pecans are still growing. Unfortunately, we had another pretty dry summer and are now hoping for any ounce of rain we can get. August and September are the times of year rain is crucial in the final development of our pecans and it has just been too dry. Our pecans are starting to suffer with some falling early. Blight and worm problems have been plaguing the poor trees as well as some aphids. We are and organic orchard so battling these pests can be a challenge. As fall is starting, we are looking forward to that first hard freeze so we can harvest what pecans we may have left.

As you can see, we have quite a schedule on the road and here on the farm. As such, we will not re-open our general store this year. Perhaps when I figure out how to clone myself we will have the store open again. Until then, you can come to one of our events, give us a call and we'll make sure to have someone you can come see, or you can always order online.
